Guddi

Guddi

Guddi is a child bride, and managed to avoid being sent to her in-laws at an early age by entering the Veerni Institute.  She has worked extremely hard over the past five years and passed her exams in 2010 in the first division with 61.85%. As a result she was able to enroll into university.

At the same time Guddi has taken on an apprenticeship at the Umaid Bhawan Palace.  She spends her mornings attending classes and works at the hotel in the afternoon and evening.  Most of the money she earns goes to support her family.  They live in a small house without electricity in the desert outside Unchiarda.  Her mother was blinded by her brother in law in a family row, her sister is back home with three children as her husband is in jail.

Guddi has overcome many obstacles and has done extremely well.  The hotel staff, mostly Rajputs, treat her with respect and admire her for what she has accomplished.  In addition her family are being treated with more respect in the community.

Guddi's husband has agreed that she can finish her studies and apprenticeship, and as a result Guddi has decided to go for her gona (join her husband).
