Veerni Literacy

The Veerni Project remains deeply committed to supporting girls’ education in Meghwalon Ki Dhani, a small, remote settlement in the Thar Desert near Jodhpur. The community is home to families from economically disadvantaged and traditionally marginalised groups, where access to quality education, especially for girls, has long been limited.

In 2016, Veerni established a small after-school literacy centre in the village to give local girls a chance to learn in a safe and supportive space. The program helped many students build the skills and confidence needed to pass the entrance exam for the Veerni Institute in Jodhpur, opening the door to secondary education. Sadly, the centre was forced to close during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Village Literacy Centre at Meghwalon Ki Dhani reopened on July 1 2025, marking a fresh start for education in the community. The centre now helps girls prepare for the Veerni entrance exam and continue their schooling at the Institute, where they can access full-time education, healthcare, and personal development opportunities.

We are proud to have Mr. Jeevan Ram, a dedicated and highly respected teacher from within the Veerni program, leading the classes. Around 20 girls from 5th to 9th grade, aged between 6 and 10, are currently enrolled. Lessons take place daily from 4:00 to 6:00pm and focus on reading, writing, and basic mathematics, with individual support for students who need extra help.

For many families in Meghwalon Ki Dhani, this centre represents hope: a place where girls can study safely, grow in confidence, and take their first steps toward a brighter future. By restoring this vital program, Veerni continues to stand beside rural communities, ensuring that no girl is left behind.
